The most exciting news about the new generation video game console (Ps5 PlayStation 5) is in the air for all the gamers out there. As it is clear that the rumor is no more a rumor and has some kind of existence already as Shawn Layden (head of PlayStation’s North America division) in his recent interview with German magazine (Golem.de) has confirmed the appearance of PS5 in the market and that PS4 Pro is not the end of PlayStations world.
Therefore now the gamers are curious and looking forward to the announcement of the official release date of PS5 by SONY. Where SONY is not giving a clear statement about the release date of PS5 Playstation 5, the industry analysts are not sitting idle as well and are coming up with their guesses of the release date.
Where Michael Pachter initially predicted the release date to 2019 but now he revises his prediction and says to The 1099 podcast: “Sony’s making so much money with the PS4 that I think they’ll continue to milk it as long as they can milk it.”
Also, he mentions that: “The PS5 is probably going to be their real 4K device, and so it just feels to me that they’re not going to launch the PS5 until sales momentum for the PS4 slows, and it just hasn’t. So you certainly get through 2017, 2018, and I just don’t see it slowing in 2018 which should prop them to launch something in 2019. If it slows in 2019, they’re probably launching in 2020.”
Release Date of Ps5 Playstation 5:
Whereas even 2020 seems a little early according to many other market analysts and predict 2021 to be the year!, they have got a good reason to say so because as PS4 and PS4 pro are making good money to SONY and they will not cease it when it’s on its peak. However, if Xbox One X by Microsoft takes over the market soon, SONY will be having a new weapon as a backup already and would release it soon then (as success is all about competing with your rivals in the market).
SONY is moving carefully and waiting for the 4K TV market to reach at least 50 percent in the USA because it is predicted to be the true 4K compatible device. SONY releases its gaming consoles in end quarter of the year and mostly in November. Also in the release ceremony of PS4 they had a film on the history of its video game consoles for the audience, we can expect such kind of surprise somewhere in November of 2020 or 2021.
Expected Improved Features:
The gamers and industry analysts are continuously making assumptions about the added features to PS5. As SONY will be looking into the rival’s (Microsoft and Nintendo switch) releases and will try to come up with something better than them. Following are the features that expected to included in PS5.
The release of PS5 is directly proportional to 4K television momentum. Once it gains and sustains its momentum in the market, PS5 will soon be released as it’s predicted to be powered by 4K television compatibility whereas PS4 Pro is also 4K compatible by using checkerboard technique but not as powerful as PS5 is thought to be.
Microsoft Xbox One X says that they have come up with promising 4K but they never hit the point. So, SONY again got a chance to introduce this powerful feature for the success of PS5 as 4K televisions are thought to be ruling half of the market by the end of this decade, and for any video game console, it would be crucial to be compatible to 4K televisions. PS5 could be the game changer.
The previous releases of SONY PlayStations lacked the backward compatibility which counted as its major drawback. As PS4 is not compatible with the PS3 libraries whereas Xbox One came up with backward compatibility with Xbox 360 and continues it in Xbox One X, SONY really needs to introduce backward compatibility in PS5 to beat Xbox One X and to rule the market once again.
PlayStation Virtual Reality- Next Generation:
2017 has been a great year for virtual reality. It’s not just a dream anymore but is improving and developing with each passing day. As PS4 already come up with virtual reality headsets that can connect to PlayStation, it expected that PS5 will launch the new generation VR headsets and games with it. PS4 Pro has already shown that greater power makes the VR better and really makes the difference, let’s see what PS5 will bring for VR. But VR still thought to remain as the side feature of PS5 and 4K television will the main feature as virtual reality still in its development stage and the market mainly covered with TV and is continuously coming up with new technologies.
Optical Driver- 4K UHD Blu-Rays/ Cloud :
Streaming is in high demand in a market such as Netflix streaming and many think that optical drivers are obsolete but that’s not true in case of the world of gamers. Many gamers still prefer discs that they can touch and also they are easy to handle than downloading the heavy games. Even if streaming made available such as PlayStation Now, it needs a really good internet connection. Even if it works well, the results not as satisfactory as provided by optical drivers because frame rate drops and input lag problems connected with game streaming. While releasing PS4 Pro they said that they think 4K streaming is the future and that no need is felt to add features to optical drivers but Xbox One S and X had it. Now PS5 expected to have 4K UHD Blu-rays as well.
Besides this, the Cloud storage maybe introduced, that will be like Netflix world for Gaming because as with every passing day the new and enhanced graphics and increased frame rates for the better performance of the game, increases the game’s file size for which Hard Drives may become short of space. 40 terabyte Hard Drive expected till 2020. Now the question is whether PS5 will come up with 4K UHD Blu ray or the Cloud technology for the storage of video games that will work like Netflix. Well, some say, SONY might come up with the idea of adding both the technologies.
Optoelectronic Computer- Processing Power:
If Cloud technology going to introduced in PS5 as expected than the processing power must make compatible with it. Therefore it’s predicted that PS5 comes with optoelectronic technology that combines the features of both optical and electronic computers which increases the processing speed. Optalysys is the UK based business that is pioneering the exascale computing technology by the year of 2020 which increases its chances of appearing in the PS5 box to some degree for enhancement of the processing power.
PS4 Pro comes with 4.2 teraflops, and Microsoft Xbox One X comes with 6 teraflops which are both not true 4K. Mark Cerny recently said that 8 teraflops needed for real 4K, hence the target for SONY is to introduce 8 teraflops in PS5 and make it true 4K. The industry analyst Damian Thong predicted that SONY will release PS5 with 10 teraflops in 2018. Whereas 2018 seems too early, the prediction can expect to be true in the year 2020 or 2021.
Games that PS5 PlayStation 5 will launch with:
The first games that come to mind are Death Stranding and The Last of Us: part 2. because they both have got at least a year for launching so they expected to launch with PS5. These two games under process for PS4 whereas they could port to PS5 as The Last of Us: Part 1 launched for PS3 and ported to PS4 later. The same could happen now. The sequel of Horizon Zero Dawn expected to released in 2020 and a there no good reason for it not to be launched for PS5. Another game that much seen as a launch for PS5 is Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima that revealed in December 2017 at PSX. Others might include FIFA 21, new Call of Duty, new DICE Shooter, Lego Game and Gran Turismo 7.
All the above mentioned are the most expected and predicted details of the upcoming PS5. As it said that SONY will be waiting till 50% market covered by 4K. But this might not prove to be correct as Xbox One X already in the market and they are playing their game hard. SONY won’t sit idle for long and watch the success game of their rivals. They will soon be releasing it once Xbox One X gets over PS4 Pro as SONY is famous for always coming up with the new featured box on the market. So in the end, according to me, the most anticipated release date would be in either September 2020 or November 2020.
